Risk management in halal supply chains

Image
In this June-July 2023 issue of the LogiSYM magazine, Dr. Marco Tieman discusses the topic of risk management in halal supply chains. In this article he reviews common gaps we find in supply chain audits with halal certified companies as well as best practices in halal risk performance measurement. The halal risk report provides the management with essential intelligence on the risks in the halal supply chain and halal integrity and reputation performance of the company. Click here for the link to the  LogiSYM article . Halal risk management becomes an important theme as halal assurance requires a supply chain approach. Especially when you are serving Muslim markets like Indonesia, Malaysia, UAE and Saudi Arabia, this should be on your radar! Halal port decision tree

Sea ports, airports, and inland terminals are important links in global halal supply chains, but a MISSING LINK when it comes to halal! Halal compliance and certification of port terminals are important to (1) avoid breakage of halal supply chains, (2) better address risk & reputation management for cargo owners + shipping lines + (sea/air/inland) ports, and (3) avoid fraud with halal logos.   In a halal compliant terminal (sea, air or inland terminal) halal goods are segregated from non-halal goods throughout the terminal process. Below a halal port decision tree to identify your next steps in professionalising halal compliant terminal operations.  There is an international halal standard for certification halal logistics operations: OIC/SMIIC 17:2020. Malaysia uses the MS 2400:2019 and Indonesia uses the HAS 23000-5 standards for the certification of logistics operations. These standards can also be used for the halal certification of sea ports, airports and inland port terminal
